Esports or Electronic Sports is a trend which is quickly redefining the meaning of sports as well as entertainment. Globally, according to reports, the esports market is estimated to reach a whopping $1.5 billion by 2021. India too is not far behind in terms of competitive gaming. For quite some time now, the country has played host to several prestigious tournaments, of which, the ESL India Premiership has played a vital role in capturing the imagination of gamers across the country. Since its launch in 2016, ESL India Premiership has been at the forefront setting standards for other competitive gaming tournaments organised in India. A good example of this would be the second edition of the Premiership or ESL India Premiership 2017, which not only boasts of a gargantuan prize pool but also is the first esports featurette to be telecasted on Indian television. The matches played in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive segment of ESL India Premiership 2017 will be aired daily on the 1sports channel from 2:30 PM onwards.
How did the ESL India Premiership Start?
The ESL India Premiership came into being in 2016 after, the world’s largest gaming network, ESL partnered with NODWIN Gaming, a leading gaming solutions company in India. The Premiership is currently the best competitive gaming tournament in the country. It provides Indian gamers and enthusiasts to experience the global esports phenomena locally. The 2016 Premiership featured year-long tournaments, which took place both online as well as offline and featured competitions for esports titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, DOTA 2 and Clash Royale.
What’s New in ESL India Premiership for the 2017 edition?
This year, the ESL India Premiership will feature not only an increase in the prize-pool but also a brand new tournament structure. With a $100,000 USD* prize pool, the 2017 Edition of the ESL India Premiership becomes the first gaming tournament in the country to feature the magical 6-digit figure. This prize pool now brings the Indian esports scene on par with major tournaments abroad such as DreamHack, the ZOTAC Masters Cup and much more. Apart from this, the 2017 edition ranks among the highest prize pools in Asia for an Asian event (excluding Valve supported events).
All matches will be played online, but at the end of a season, the 8 teams in the Master League will participate in an offline LAN finale. Following which, there will be a break before the next season begins. During this period, the transfer window will be open and teams can choose to shuffle their rosters. This is the only period during which the roster lock opens.
