Ace golfers Shubhankar Sharma and Anirban Lahiri will spearhead India’s challenge at the 55th edition of the Hero Indian Open to be held at the DLF Golf and Country Club Gurugram from March 28 to 31.
Considered as the sport’s national championship, Hero Indian Open will offer a prize purse of $1.75 million.
Other Indian golfers to feature in the tournament are SSP Chawrasia, Shiv Kapur, Rahil Gangjee and youngsters like Ajeetesh Sandhu, Viraj Madappa, Khalin Joshi and S Chikkarangappa.
But all eyes will be on Asian Tour No. 1 Shubhankar and 2015 champion Lahiri to put up a good show in front of home fans.
The tournament going to miss last year’s runner-up and World No. 236, Andrew Johnston. It’s a piece of sad news for the fans, as he confirms the news by tweeting “I’m sorry I’m not there. I’ll be back though.”

In other news, the defending champion and World No. 35 Matt Wallace also had earlier announced about not being able to participate this week.

With the top two contenders from the past edition are missing it this time, will it be a good week for the Indians? Going by the statistics too, three of the last four editions have been won by an India, twice by SSP Chawrasia, back to back in 2016 and 2017, after a thrilling win by Anirban Lahiri in 2015.
All in all this week is surely going to be exciting and we hope to see some good action, supporting your favorite players, as they say, may the best man win.
